The Gavin Floyd Experiment
by scott longert on 03/23/15
In my last post I had mentioned the Indians need Gavin Floyd to pitch well in the starting rotation. Well another arm injury and he is done for the year. That means the rotation that finished the second half of 2014 will be back. Danny Salazar will likely get the fifth spot regardless of how he does the rest of spring training.
The team can not afford to have any of its remaining pitchers go down with an injury. If that happens its Josh Tomlin and or Bruce Chen. As I write Shawn Marcum is bidding to make the team. Another Scott Kazmir? We will see.
He will probably start the season at Columbus but what about Francisco Lindor? Is he ready now? Your comments please!
Another Season is Here
by scott longert on 03/23/15
Even though there is ice and snow all around Cleveland, baseball is just three weeks away. I noticed Brandon Moss is in today's lineup for the first time. If he is okay to play by the opener that will really help.
The Indians seem to have pitching and more pitching. That could be the deciding factor if the Indians are to contend.
The team needs the walking wounded, Swisher, Moss, Floyd to be able to contribute soon. A bounce back season from Michael Bourn would help as well.
I know I am a bit optimistic but I see eighty-eight wins for the Tribe this year. Anybody else have an opinion?
Still In Contention
by scott longert on 03/23/15
As we go down the stretch, the Indians are still in the hunt. It is remarkable that they are still in contention with Cabrerra, Masterson and Axeford no longer on the team.
They are doing it with guys from AAA like Walters and Holt. Swisher is on the DL, Bourn has just returned. The starting rotation has Kluber, a thirteen game winner and at least three other guys that go back and forth to Columbus. Somehow they still hang behind Detroit and Kansas City.
If the Indians get in the playoffs via the wild card it will be quite amazing.
The Half-Way Point
by scott longert on 03/23/15
The baseball season resumes shortly. It is time for the Indians to make their move. Despite a lackluster first half, the team still has a shot at the wild card. The veterans must step up including Swisher, Kipnis, and Masterson.
It is not realistic to think that Trevor Bauer, T.J. House and Josh Tomlin are going to carry the Indians to the playoffs. Sure Corey Kluber is capable of being the ace, but Masterson has to come of the DL and show something. If not it is time to focus on Johnny Football and the return of the King, Lebron James.
Tigers Roar
by scott longert on 03/23/15
I was hoping for another sweep of the Tigers or at least taking two out of three. The Indians were overmatched in the series, losing all three. Once again the Tigers showed they still have excellent pitchers in Scherzer and Verlander, not to overlook Rick Porcello. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez continued to bat around Tribe pitchers.
It is becoming clear the Indians need another front line starter. Scott Kazmir would be looking good right now. I don't think Josh Tomlin can help much.
Other than Michael Brantley nobody is hitting right now. Chisenhall is cooling off and others are yet to get started.
